The Beach at Whale Cay, Middle Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands
Blog Post -ย June 14, 2024
We hiked to the remote beach at Whale Cay, which is a 1.5 mile out-and-back hike.
Whale Cay gets its name as this small island looks like a whale swimming in the ocean.
It's located on the north end of Middle Caicos in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
We took the Crossing Place Trail, but found that there is no parking at the trailhead.
We parked our Jeep at the Dragon Cay Resort and then walked over to the trailhead.
This is a 1.5 mile out and back hike.
At the trailhead, you'll see this opening in the bushes and trees.
You'll definitely want to put on and bring some mosquito spray.
The trail goes by some stagnant ponds that have a lot of mosquitos.ย
After we put on mosquito spray, we didn't get a lot of bites.
We came to a fork in the trail. This is where you turn to go to the beach at Whale Cay.
You'll see a post marker with a number 7 on it. That's how you'll know you're at the right place.
We turned right and walked over to the beach. We could see Whale Cay out in the distance.
As we walked out onto the beach we noticed a lot of debris that had washed ashore. Due to this beach being so remote, there is no maintenance to keep it clean.
There is another trail you can take to the right that will take you to this little beach. You could also swim around to it.
This is what Whale Cay looks like up close.
We walked and explored the entire beach. This is what it looked like.
At the end of the beach, there is a split in the cliff and the water rushes around it.
After exploring this beach, you can head back on the trail. It will be about 3/4 of a mile back to the beginning of the trailhead.
If you still have energy and time, you can take the trail farther north to explore the Norbellis Coves.
Overall, we had an amazing time at the beach at Whale Cay. We had this beach all to ourselves. We would definitely go back again.

CHECKLIST:
These are the checklist items I recommend:
- We did the hike in flip flops, but it would be way more comfortable in running shoes or hiking shoes.
- Bring your own snacks and drinks.
- Wear reef safe sunscreen.
- We didn't bring our own snorkeling gear because we didn't want to hike with it, but you could snorkel on a calm day.
