South Point Cliff DiveĀ on The Big Island of Hawaii
Blog Post - Nov 13, 2023
South Point Cliff Dive is located on the very southern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii.
This cliff area has an approximate 40 foot jump into 20 feet of water.
You can also take the trail south to the Southernmost Point of the United States.
This is a beautiful location to explore.
You can see where it's located on the map below.
We took South Point Road for miles until we reached our destination. This is the same road that we took to the Green Sand Beach.
Just south of the South Point Cliff Dive location is the Southernmost Point of the United States.
As we drove up, we saw that they have porta-potties for bathrooms and parking on the left.
You can drive to the cliff, but you need a 4-wheel drive vehicle with high clearance to get there.
We parked off the road and walked over to the cliff.
As we walked over to the cliff area, we noticed an enormous blow hole. The ocean was pretty calm the day that we went, but this was cool to look into.
Then we walked over to the cliff jumping platforms. We were told that this jump is approximately 40 feet and the water is about 20 feet deep.
I have a fear of heights and this was terrifying looking over the edge.
We noticed that there are multiple ladders combined together with chains. This is one option to get back up after jumping. The other option is to swim over to the rocks and you can climb up. I got some footage of a girl that had just jumped starting to climb up the rocks.
You can also use these rocks to climb down and go snorkeling. We saw one guy go snorkeling there. We didn't go in as there were lots of people fishing from the cliff.
No was jumping while I was flying my drone, but then I saw a guy go for the cliff jump. I pulled out my GoPro and filmed his jump and him climbing up the ladder.
After exploring, we headed down the trail to go to the Southernmost Point of the United States.
Overall, we had a great time exploring these cliffs on the southern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii.
