South Beach is located on the southern end of Miami Beach.
It goes from the South Pointe Pier all the way up to 23rd Street.
That's about 2.3 miles of amazing beach.
South Beach has running/biking trails, playgrounds, parks, and an amazing beach.
Lummus Park is ten blocks long and goes from 5th Street to 14th Place and has an outdoor workout gym, beach volleyball, and the iconic Miami Beach sign.
These maps show where South Beach is located:
We started out exploring the southern end first at the South Pointe Park Pier.
This pier is long and is where you can watch the cruise ships leave Miami. You also have great views of South Beach.
While on the pier we saw a manatee swimming along the rock jetty.
After exploringĀ the South Pointe Park Pier we walked along the beach up to 5th Street.
This is where you can find the Miami Beach sign to take pictures and where Lummus Park begins.
As we started walking north along the boardwalk we noticed that they have nice public bathrooms.
We walked up to the Lummus Park 6th Street Fitness Area.
They had all sorts of workout machines you could use.
As we continued walking north we found the beach volleyball courts. There were a lot of them.
After passing the volleyball courts, we came up to the famous Muscle Beach on South Beach. This area has 2 big sheds full of weights that you can use to workout.
After passing Muscle Beach at South Beach, we came up to the Beach Patrol Headquarters. This is a beautiful building.
We saw this iguana along the way.
All the way up to 23rd Street, there are exit trails that take you to the beach. We walked up to 23rd Street and then walked out to the beach and started walking back towards the pier. This is what it looked like:
Overall, we had a great time exploring South Beach in Miami Beach. It was crowded, but we still had a great time here.

PRICING:
You will need to pay for parking in South Beach if you are close to the beach. There are parking Garages, paid open lots, and metered parking. The pricing while we were there was about $2/hour or about $20 to $30 for the day.
You can also pay to rent a beach chair and umbrella from a local vendor.
We stayed at the Ocean Walk Condo and didn't have a rental car so we didn't pay for parking. We used the Uber app to get around. Our condo included a daily beach chair and umbrella rental so we didn't pay for that either.
So our cost to go to South Beach was $0, but you will want to have money/credit card to pay for parking, beach chairs/umbrellas, and to go out to eat if you're hungry.
Our Total Cost: $0
CHECKLIST:
These are the checklist items I recommend:
- Bring your own beach towel.
- Sunscreen
- We brought our snorkeling gear, but Miami Beach isn't really a great snorkeling beach. We didn't use our gear.
- Bring money for Beach Chairs and Umbrella Rentals.
- Money for parking, food,Ā and activities.
