Klein, Curacao - A Boat Trip Excursion
Blog Post - November 10, 2022
We booked our boat trip excursion to the remote island of Klein, Curacao through MermaidBoatTrips.com.
It's a 2 hour boat ride.
They included breakfast and a BBQ lunch.
The beaches and snorkeling were amazing!
There is also an old lighthouse and some shipwrecks to explore.
This is a must do excursion! We drove to Jan Thiel in Willemsted, Curacao to the harbor.
We actually booked this excursion for November 9th, but because of terrible traffic we missed the boat. We called that morning to let them know and they rescheduled us for the next day, November 10th. Make sure you give yourself at least an extra 30 minutes to account for the morning traffic on the island.
When we arrived, we found that the parking lot was free. We parked and then walked over to the boat and got checked in. This is a map showing where the parking lot is located in comparison to the dock.
This is the boat that we took to Klein, Curacao.
It's about a 2 hour boat ride to get there. We went through the bay and then followed the coastline to the southernmost point of Curacao and then crossed over to Klein.
When we finally arrived, we had two options to get to shore. We could jump off the boat and swim in or we could get on a small raft and be driven in to the beach. We opted to take the small raft since I had my drone in my backpack and it wasn't a dry bag.
Once we got to the beach, we had three main options.
1. Go snorkeling
2. Explore the Lighthouse
3. Explore the Shipwrecks
Before we started exploring, we went to the covered pavilion area and they served us breakfast.
Another reason we booked our excursion with MermaidBoatTrips.com is that they have bathrooms on the island. The other excursions only had bathrooms on their boats. For an all-day excursion, we thought this would be important and it was.
This is the covered area for eating. We went during the rainy season so there were a lot of mosquitos. Make sure to bring your own mosquito spray.
This is an aerial view of the covered area with bathrooms.
We decided to explore the lighthouse first. There is a trail system that you can take to get there.
This lighthouse is no longer in service. You can go in and explore, but the wood was rotting away so we just looked in the rooms
Julie climbed the stairs as far up as you can go.
After exploring the lighthouse, we continued on the trail to the other side of the island to explore the two shipwrecks. You can see the large shipwreck off in the distance.
You can't actually get on the boat, but after checking it out from the shore, we walked south a little ways to the smaller shipwreck.
After exploring the shipwrecks, we took the trail back to the beach. We decided to explore the beach next.
It was hot out, so as we walked the beach we would get in the water to cool off. This beach was so beautiful!
After exploring the beach and hanging out, they served us a delicious bbque lunch.
After lunch we decided to go snorkeling. We saw all sorts of fish. The water was crystal clear.
We brought our own snorkel gear, but they had snorkel gear if you didn't bring any.
After we got out, we hung out on the beach till it was time to head back.
When it was time to go, we go onto the small raft, which took us back to the boat. We then did the 2 hour boat ride back.
Overall, this excursion was amazing! This is a must do when visiting Curacao. The only bad part about this trip was that it was rainy season and the mosquitos. If you go in November, make sure you bring some mosquito spray. Our guides told us that when it's not rainy season, this island truly is a paradise. Either way, we still recommend this excursion. We loved it!
