Factory Butte is an amazing place to hike and explore.

This Butte rises hundreds of feet into the air and is surrounded by a landscape that looks like another planet.

It’s just outside of Hanksville, Utah and you will drive on dirt roads to get there, but it is totally worth it.

We left Hanksville on the paved highway, UT-24. We drove about 10.7 miles (12 minutes) to the right hand turn onto N Factory Butte Rd. This is also known as Coal Mine Rd.

We made the right hand turn onto N Factory Butte Rd. This is also known as Coal Mine Rd.

We followed this dirt road north for 5.6 miles and then made a left.

We drove to the end of this dirt road and parked.

After parking we started hiking towards Factory Butte. This is what the hike looked like:

As we got closer, we saw a truck and jeep driving by. We didn't know that you could drive out to the base of Factory Butte. We will do that next time as the hike was pretty far.

Overall, we enjoyed exploring Factory Butte. It was overcast when we went, so we definitely want to go back. We also found out that we can drive to the base, so we'll also do that next time.
